Sunrise through a lone silver birch tree. Castle Hill New Zealand Todd & I spent nearly an hour in this spot photographing the landscape as the morning mist came and went. What an incredible morning of photography! We left the caravan pre-dawn in heavy fog and it showed no signs of lifting as we drove, and drove, and drove some more in the hope of finding a break.
Our travels eventually brought us to the edge of the fog bank, but as the sun rose it began pursuing us up the valley - eventually pushing us into the weird and wonderful limestone landscape of Castle Hill. I can think of no more fitting conditions with which to photograph Castle Hill - it was atmospheric in a primordial way that had my mind constantly referencing images of Stone Henge, Druids and strange ceremonies involving goats...
Now if only I could get Sarah to edit some of my images.

Space odyssey? Castle Hill Rocks. Canterbury The early morning light accentuated the two contrasting forms of these rock formations at Castle Hill Station. Something about the smooth lines of the left hand rock draws my eye to it - I can picture this scene on the cover of a sci-fi novel. On Highway 73 (Great Alpine Highway) to Arthurs Pass.
